Notes from the Senate Judiciary Hearing- April 14, 2011

A Senate bill to require the printing of a paper receipt from our existing iVotronics was discussed. The Beaufort County election director addressed the Senators and stated that adding a printer to our existing system would be very expensive, possibly costing over 15 million dollars. In addition, it would create one more layer of complexity to an already complicated system, and with paper jams and technical problems, would create longer lines for voters.

“Voting machine concerns find fertile ground” by Robert Behre- Post and Courier

Council of Governments agrees to ask Legislature to investigate after problems plagued several counties

Frank Heindel, a Charleston businessman, has spent months investigating the machines’ performance, and he outlined his findings Monday to the board of the Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments.
Heindel talked about recent problems with voting tabulations in Colleton, Lancaster and Richmond counties. “It’s not all the same problem,” he said. “There’s a variety of different things going wrong.”

Uncounted Votes in Richland County

The State newspaper here and the Columbia Free Times here both have reports about over 1000 missing electronic ballots in Richland County found by Frank Heindel, Chip Moore, Duncan Buell and Eleanor Hare in their audit of the November, 2010 election.
